Lowther Castle Inn and Courtroom, Hackthorpe, Penrith, Cumbria. CA10 2HX
The Inn is situated a few miles from Lowther Castle, once the family seat of the Earls of Lonsdale and possible the most beautiful building in Cumbria. It’s ruins stand majestically in Lowther Park.
The pub, part of which was the Magistrates Court until 1963, has been proudly run by Dawn and Harold Brennand since 2004, following its purchase by her aunt Gwenda Simity.
The devotion show to this family run pub is obvious to anyone visiting it.
It has recently received five stars in the national Scores on the Doors award scheme, following a health and hygiene inspection by Eden District Council. We believe it to be the only pub in the area to have received the top accolade, which makes us even prouder.
The Court Room Restaurant, with its paneled walls, has an appealing ambience together with a wide range of excellent, freshly prepared food. This is a desirable place to visit, whether to eat or simply have a drink at the bar where an open fire adds warmth and atmosphere.
Harold, Dawn and their excellent staff look forward to welcoming customers old and new to the Lowther Castle Inn - “The out of town place to eat”.
